Extend the gardening season with cold-frames
The cold weather has finally started to move in but that doesn’t mean you have to stop growing some cool season crops. Extend your gardening season with simple cold-frame structures.
With a little bit of crop protection, you can still enjoy some of your favorite cool season crops like lettuce, spinach, kale and root crops.
November is typically when we start having harder freezes in southeastern Pennsylvania. By creating a simple cold-frame we can protect our crops so they keep producing into December, or even January, if it’s warm enough.
Harvesting vegetable crops out of their ordinary harvest window can be challenging but the reward of having fresh greens and root crops in December is well worth it.
Below you can check out some pictures of the cold-frames we use for our raised beds in the Vertical Screen garden!
