John Mazzeo, Vertical Screen's Associate General Counsel and Director of I-9 and E-Verify Compliance, has been appointed to the American Immigration Lawyers Association (AILA) Verification and Documentation Liaison Committee for the 2023-2024 year. This is John's first appointment to an AILA committee.

As part of his appointment, John will liaise with representatives from the Department of Homeland Security, Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the Immigrant and Employee Rights Section of the Department of Justice, and the Office of the Chief Administrative Hearing Officer regarding employment verification, Form I-9 requirements, enforcement efforts, adjudication issues, and more. Through his appointment, John will be able to raise important issues to the regulators and agitate for commonsense change.

AILA is the nation's largest voluntary national bar association for immigration practitioners, serving over 16,000 members. Founded in 1946, AILA serves the public through educating attorneys, professional services, disseminating information, and advocating for legislative change.

John serves as Vertical Screen's Associate General Counsel and Director of I-9 and E-Verify Compliance. In that role, he serves as the Product Owner for the i9Success suite of products, ensuring that the products remain compliant with ever-changing laws and regulations as well as devising new, innovative products to better serve our clients. John frequently writes and speaks on Form I-9 and E-Verify compliance matters and serves as a trusted resource to many attorneys and organizations on those issues. Prior to joining Vertical Screen, John was an Assistant Chief Counsel with the Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, DHS-ICE. In that role, John served as counsel for all worksite enforcement cases arising in Pennsylvania, West Virginia, and Delaware, including litigating cases in front of the Office of Chief Administrative Hearing Officer.

John earned his J.D. from Drexel University's Thomas R. Kline School of Law and his B.A. from Ursinus College. He also serves as the Legal Updates and Resources Subcommittee Chair for the Corporate and Securities Law Network of the Association of Corporate Counsel.
